East River Road is one of the most picturesque areas of the Twin Cities. Also known as East River Parkway, the road follows the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River’s east bank from the University of Minnesota and the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis into the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul. Bicycling routes and walking paths parallel the road to the west, and dip down into parks, picnic areas and a marina along the river. Estate homes line the road to the east. The houses vary in style from Tudor and Colonial, Prairie and mid-century modern, to 21st-century contemporary, many with expansive lawns and well-manicured gardens. The U of M President’s residence, known as Eastcliff, as well as luxury rental properties are also found along East River Road. All have magnificent views of the river and the bald eagles that nest there.
